Aloha ‘Ohana - as we start celebrating Black History Month here is a quick question for all of you:
Did you know why did Martin Luther King Jr. wear a Hawaiian lei during the Selma to Montgomery marches?
Answer: Dr. King saw Hawaii as a “noble example” of racial harmony.
During the third and final Selma to Montgomery march that began on March 21, 1965, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and other civil rights protesters were seen leading the crowd of thousands wearing a Hawaiian lei as a symbol of affection, and more generally as a gesture of love. The garlands were organized to be sent to Dr. King as a symbolic action of support and solidarity by Reverend Abraham Akaka, clergyman, and Kahu of Kawaiahaʻo Church.
In honor of Dr. King and in celebration of Black History Month let’s all stand together to support one another.
Aloha ‘Ohana - Happy Lunar New Year from all of us at Ko’olauloa Health Center!
This Lunar New Year, we wish you luck and prosperity in the year ahead. Celebrate with family, friends, food, or simply wish others happiness. 2022 is the Year of the Tiger - together let's make this year about courage, strength, health, and generosity.
Happy Monday ‘Ohana!
We love this graphic! Its meaning sits very close to one of our core principles here at Ko’olauloa Health Center - compassion.
Many of us stop at Empathy when we try to support others through difficulties.
While Empathy allows us to authentically feel with the sufferer, it can sometimes reduce our ability to help, as we become immersed in their emotions.
To be an effective supporter, it's sometimes better to take a step back from the debilitating emotions and transition into Compassion, where we can take effective actions to help.
Have a beautiful week!
Aloha ‘Ohana - while sometimes life can get challenging, please remember that together we _are_ making a difference.
All of us at Ko’olauloa Health Center want to express our heartfelt concern for everyone who continues to be impacted by the challenges we have been facing as a family and community. This pandemic has shown us how quickly our lives can change and how fragile our health can be and reminds us how important our friends, family, and the Ko’olauloa community is to all of us.
Each day, we are overwhelmed by the support you give to our staff and our health programs. Let's continue to work together and make a difference.

Aloha ‘Ohana,
As Maya Angelou said, “How important it is for us to recognize and celebrate our heroes and she-roes!”
Today we would like to celebrate and say thank you to all the essential workers - heath care professionals, grocery clerks, bus drivers, mail carriers, police officers, firefighters, delivery drivers, bank cashiers, farmers, sanitation workers, and others - who put their lives on the line for us.
You are our heroes and she-roes!
We see you and support you…

Aloha ‘Ohana, Here are three reasons why we wear our masks in public.
Humility: we don’t know if we have COVID-19 as it is clear that people can spread the disease before they have symptoms.
Kindness: We don’t know if the person we are near has a child battling cancer, or cares for their elderly mother. While we might be fine, they are not. 3
Community: We want our community to thrive, businesses to stay open, employees to stay healthy. Keeping a lid on COVID-19 helps us all.
Have a beautiful weekend!
