Natividad “Naty” Hopewell

Chief Medical Officer
Naty_HopewellNaty has been in the health care industry for 48 years. She has received her Nursing Certificate at the Queen’s Hospital School of Nursing in 1964 and then went on to the University of Washington where she received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1968 and accreditation as a Family Nurse Practitioner along with her Master of Science in Nursing in 1976. Naty has worked as a R.N. in a variety of settings – hospital, private practice, school & health center. Naty was one of the grant writers for Ko‘olauloa Health Center’s 330e initial grant.

Dr. Eugene Chin

Internal Medicine (M.D.)
Eugene_ChinDr. Chin, an internist, has been with KHC for about a year and sees patients at our Kahuku site on Tuesday’s, Wednesday’s, and Friday’s and specializes in chronic disease management. Dr. Chin graduated from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in NY and retired from Kaiser after nearly three decades. He enjoys primary care and we’re fortunate to have him on our team.

Douglas A. Sutherland

Pediatrician-Doctor of Medicine (M.D.)
Doug_SutherlandDr. Southerland was born and raised in Austin, Texas. He received his Bachelor of Science in Cellular Biology from the University of Washington and graduated medical school at the University of Oklahoma. He attended Eastern Virginia Medical School where he completed his pediatric internship and residency. He provided free or inexpensive physicals at Kahuku High and Intermediate school for 5 years, and attended high-risk deliveries at Kahuku Hospital for 10 years. Dr. Sutherland has 18 years of experience working in the health care industry.

Marcus Angulo

APRN, FNP
Marcus_AnguroAn Advanced Practice Registered Nurse and Family Nurse Practitioner, Marcus provides family medicine to our patients at our Kahuku and Red Raider facilities and also works out of our mobile healthcare van. Marcus moved to Sunset last spring, in addition to his Nursing degrees he also holds a degree in kinesiology and while not caring for our patients you can find Marcus surfing, hiking, or cooking at home.

Amy Cummings

APRN, FNP
Amy_CummingsAmy relocated here from Florida and is an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse and Family Nurse Practitioner. She receives patients at both our Hau`ula and Kahuku facilities and also works out of our mobile healthcare van. When she’s not working you’ll likely see Amy on one of our area hiking trails. She’s also a big fan of surfing and yoga. In addition to her Masters in Nursing, Amy also has a degree in journalism and has authored a short book called “ICU Diaries” in which she chronicles highlights from her preceding 10 years of bedside nursing.

Dr. Jonas Navickas

Dr. Navickas graduated from the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1992. Dr. Navickas receives patients at our Hau`ula and Kahuku facilities and specializes in Family Medicine and has received awards, honors, and recognition for the Patient Centered Medical Home Recognition Program’s National Committee for Quality Assurance, 2014, 2015.

Dental

Dr. Don Sand (DDS)

Don_SandDr. Don Sand practiced cosmetic and periodontic dentistry in California. He is also a founder of a non-profit dental/medical organization to help orphans in Mexico: Students in Medical Missions (SIMS). He has studied and written extensively on preventive dental care and is working to create preventive programs for the youth in Ko`olauloa. Dr. Sand spent several years working in association with Loma Linda’s Dental School first, with a residency in their Hospital Dentistry program, then as a professor of International Dentistry. Later he worked as the main associate in the private practice for the top Prosthodontic professor, Dr. Judith Strutz. When he’s not working Dr. Sand enjoys the ocean, diving, swimming, and surfing.

Markee Estioko (RDH, BS, CTTS)

Markee_EstiokoBorn and raised on the North Shore of O`ahu, Markee attended Kahuku High and Intermediate School during the 7th, 8th, and 9th grades before transferring to Kamehameha Schools. She was then recruited to play D-1 Soccer at the University of New Mexico where she graduated with her BS in Dental Hygiene. After returning home she married her high school sweetheart and had a beautiful baby girl. In her free time, she enjoys playing in the yard with her 4 energetic dogs, spending time with family, going to the beach, and adventuring around the island.

Behavioral Health Services

Rodnsey Yamaki (MD)

Psychiatrist
Dr. Yamaki is a Psychiatrist who graduated from the University of Hawai`i John A. Burns School of Medicine. Dr. Yamaki specializes in the treatment of a variety of behavioral health and substance related conditions through therapeutic counseling and pharmacotherapies.

Thomas Robertson (LCSW, CTTS)

Thomas_RobertsonThomas was born and raised in Laie, Hawaii and attended Kahuku High and Intermediate School. He received a Bachelor’s of Science at BYU-Hawaii; and a Master’s in Social Work from University of Hawai`i at Manoa. His early work experience was out in the field helping individuals with severe and persistent mental illness, unsheltered homeless, and those with substance use disorders. Thomas is a licensed clinical social worker and sees patients at our Hau`ula and Red Raider facilities.

Helen Bressler (RN, LMFT, MSCP, CSAC, ICADC, CTTS, EFT-CAP)

Helen Bressler

Helen is a licensed marriage and family therapist (LMFT) and holds a master’s degree in counseling psychology, an undergraduate degree in nursing, certificates in substance abuse counseling and tobacco treatment.  Serving as Ko’olauloa’s Lifestyle & Wellness Advocate she helps individuals, couples, and families to make healthier life choices, navigate through life’s ups and downs, address addiction, tobacco use, and personal and relationship issues.  With a background in complementary therapies, she is interested in holistic wellness, which includes all aspects of personhood, family and community. Her interests include healthy nutrition, Iyengar yoga, and energy psychology. She has a keen interest in stress management techniques that include meditation and mindfulness. Moving to Oahu in 2009 from the UK she feels privileged to be part of the North Shore Ohana.

Chris Tsue (Pharm.D.)

Chris_TsueChris was born and raised on the North Shore of Oahu and is a proud graduate of Kahuku High School. After finishing his undergraduate studies at Pitzer College Chris attended the Daniel K. Inouye College of Pharmacy in Hilo, where he graduated as a Doctor of Pharmacy. Chris joined the dedicated health professionals of Ko’olauloa Health Center in 2014. As Director of Pharmacy he looks forward to expanding the health services offered and giving back to his community.

Derek Leung (Pharm.D.)

Derek graduated from the University of Southern California with is Doctorate in Pharmacy and has been with KHC for over three years.
