COVID-19: STAY UP TO DATE WITH VACCINES & BOOSTERS
Get Your COVID-19 Vaccines or Booster
Bivalent Boosters
The most up to date bivalent booster vaccines are specifically designed to protect against the original COVID-19 and Omicron subvariants. These booster vaccines are available for free regardless of health insurance status.
Primary Vaccination
COVID-19 vaccines are an effective way to protect those in our community from getting seriously ill, being hospitalized, and dying. Everyone 6 months and older is eligible for free COVID-19 vaccinations regardless of health insurance status. 1st and 2nd doses (primary vaccination series) should be prioritized over any booster doses. These are monovalent vaccines and protect against the original strain of COVID-19.
Bivalent Boosters
Third and subsequent doses are bi-valent (as opposed to the mono-valent primary series vaccines) and are specifically designed to protect against both the original COVID-19 strain and Omicron subvariants. These vaccines are available for free regardless of health insurance status.
Bivalent vaccines are available for those who are 6 months and older who completed their first 2 doses at least 2 months ago.
For children 6 months - 4 years of age receiving the Pfizer product, the 3rd dose is bivalent, but it is not called a booster. For everyone else, the 3rd dose is bivalent and is called a booster.
People who are at least 50 years of age or are immunocompromised are eligible for a 4th dose which, like the 3rd dose, is bi-valent, is called a booster, and is given at least 4 months after the 3rd dose.
If you have had a COVID-19 infection the past 2 months, consult your provider as to the timing of your next dose of the vaccine.
Step #1 Check your eligibility
Everyone age 6 months and older is eligible for free COVID-19 vaccinations regardless of health insurance status.
It is easy to get confused about what brands of COVID-19 vaccines are available and the timing of doses. Thankfully the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has an informational site breaking things down by vaccine brand and the patient’s age. There is also a tool to find out when you can get a booster. You are also welcome to contact Koʻolauloa Health Center at (808) 293-9231 to see if you are eligible for a booster.
Step #2 Med-QUEST patient?
Contact Koʻolauloa Health Center
Please contact Koʻolauloa Health Center ahead of time at (808) 293-9231 to ensure that vaccines are available and to schedule an appointment. Currently we offer the Moderna bivalent booster. This is available only for Med-Quest patients.
Step #3 Not a Med-QUEST patient OR interested in a primary vaccination series?
Locate an alternate vaccination site.
If you are not a Med-QUEST patient OR you are interested in completing a primary vaccination series, you will need to receive your COVID-19 vaccinations or boosters at an alternative site, such as a pharmacy. One of the easiest ways to find a vaccination site is to use the Hawai’i Department of Health’s interactive map. You are always welcome to contact Koʻolauloa Health Center at (808) 293- 9231 if you are having difficulty locating a vaccination site.
School-Based Vaccination Sites for Children 5-11 years old
Parents can contact their child’s school directly to see if and when their school will be offering vaccinations to students. Please note that all keiki vaccinations will require a parent/guardian’s consent.
The majority of the school vaccination sites for children ages 5-11 years old are closed to the general public. Therefore, a list of participating schools is not posted on this website.
