Job Title: Chief Medical Officer

Job Description & Overview
The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) is a key member of the senior executive team at Ko‘olauloa Health Center (KHC) responsible for overseeing the clinical operations, ensuring the delivery of high-quality healthcare services, and maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. The CMO will provide leadership, strategic direction, and vision to the medical staff and clinical services, fostering a culture of excellence and innovation.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Leadership:

  • Provide strategic leadership and direction for all clinical programs and services.

  • Develop, implement, and monitor clinical policies and procedures to ensure the highest standards of care.

  • Foster a culture of continuous quality improvement and patient safety.

Operational Management:

  • Oversee the day-to-day clinical operations and ensure efficient use of resources.

  • Collaborate with other senior leaders to align clinical goals with organizational objectives.

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including HRSA requirements for Federally Qualified Health Centers.

Quality & Performance Improvement:
This is a full-time position, and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Hours and days may vary depending on department needs.

  • Report to work on time.

  • If late to work because of emergencies will call to notify the Chief Medical Officer.

  • Request for time off should be submitted to the Chief Medical Officer one month in advance.

Staff Management & Development:

  • Recruit, train, and mentor medical staff, fostering a collaborative and supportive work environment.

  • Conduct performance evaluations and implement professional development plans.

  • Address clinical staff concerns and ensure effective communication within the medical team.

Patient Care & Community Engagement:

  • Ensure the delivery of patient-centered, culturally competent care.

  • Engage with patients and the community to understand their needs and improve service delivery.

  • Represent the health center in community meetings, health fairs, and other public forums.

Financial Oversight:

  • Collaborate with the CFO to develop and manage the clinical budget.

  • Identify opportunities for cost savings and revenue enhancement without compromising quality of care.

  • Monitor billing and coding practices to ensure compliance and optimize reimbursement.

Strategic Planning:

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the health center's strategic plan.

  • Identify and pursue opportunities for growth, partnerships, and innovation in clinical services.

  • Stay informed about healthcare trends and policies that may impact the health center

Qualifications:

  • Medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited institution.

  • Board certification in a relevant specialty.

  • Valid medical license to practice in Hawai‘i.

  • Minimum of 10 years of clinical experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.

  • Experience working in a Federally Qualified Health Center or similar healthcare setting preferred.

  • Strong knowledge of federal and state healthcare regulations.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a diverse clinical team.

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
