Job Title: General Practice Dentist

Status / Time: Full-Time
Reports to: Chief Operating Officer
Position Type: Permanent
FLSA Classification: Salary, Exempt


Primary Function:
Responsible for patient care, practice management, staff management and practice promotion.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Patient Management

  • Diagnoses and treats patients to achieve excellent results within estimated treatment time with maximum concern for patient comfort and respect.

  • Delivers the highest quality care to patients.

  • Follows up with patients who had invasive dental treatments to assess any complications.

  • Maintains a calm, pleasant, friendly environment for patients and dental staff.

  • Informs patient, parent or guardian about procedures prior to commencement of treatment.

  • Ensures that patient comfort is the utmost priority.

  • Uses good-faith efforts not to prolong or force treatment upon a patient.

  • Diagnoses and treats patients to achieve excellent results within estimated treatment time with maximum concern for patient comfort and respect.

 Practice Management

  • Finishes and signs progress notes within 24 hours.

  • Documents procedures appropriately and thoroughly.

  • Sets goals and with the help of advisors, plans courses of action to achieve these goals.

  • Schedules routine meetings with advisors and staff to analyze the progress of the practice, adjust plan as necessary.

  • Oversees compliance with OSHA regulations.

  • Provides input on purchasing dental equipment.

  • Actively participates in staff meetings.

  • Informs COO if there are any confidentiality and liability issues with staff.

  • Provides a general climate of cooperation and understanding.

Practice Promotion

  • Develops specific approaches to attract a constant influx of new patients and retain patients of record and strives to maintain skills and knowledge of best practices.

  • Maintains professional relationships with other professionals in the community Maintains professional relationships with other professionals in the community.

Staff Management

  • Assists with recruiting, interviewing, selecting, and training staff.

  • Ensures confidentiality of patient communications and records.

  • Provide input on department staff performance reviews. 

  • Participates in (and share with staff) any discussions with patients regarding compliments and complaints.

  • Perform other duties assigned by the COO.

Education & Training of Staff

  • Provides educational opportunities through dental literature review and seminars to appraise staff of new techniques, appliances, and trends in the profession.

  • Structures educational plans for self and staff to maintain the highest level of expertise in clinical and business functions.

  • Provides feedback sessions so that information learned at seminars and meetings is shared with the rest of the office team.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Required- a DDS or DMD degree from an accredited dental school.

  • Required an unrestricted license to practice in The State of Hawai‘i and meet other applicable state requirements.

  • Required- Experience in the specialty practice if basis for employment requires the specialty.

  • Peer review for fitness to practice for credentialing and privileging.

  • Three (3) References from prior employers or practices.

On-going Credentialing & Privileging
Provider must ensure that KHC has the necessary documents of file.

  • Current Hawai‘i State License.

  • Current DEA.

  • Current State NED.

  • Provide profile for insurance company.

  • Submission of CME.

  • Peer Review on an annual basis per policy.

Physical Demands:
Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit for long periods of time and perform repetitive movements. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

Work Environment:

  • Indoor in sometimes warm environment

  • Occasionally required to be outdoors for travel, health fairs, outreach and community events, etc.

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. 

  • Employee is aware of risks involving COVID-19 or other contaminants.

Equipment Use:
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Position Type/Expected Hours:
This is a part-time position for 20 hours per week. Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 6:00 pm.

Travel:
Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and out-of-the-state travel may be expected.

Certificates, Clearance:

  • Tuberculosis clearance is required.

  • Proof of vaccination and/or serology of vaccines determined required for KHC employees.
