Job Title: Medical Assistant

Status / Time: Full-Time
Reports to: MA Supervisor
Position Type: Permanent
FLSA Classification: Hourly, Non-Exempt


Primary Function:
A Medical Assistant at Ko‘olauloa Health Center (KHC) plays a crucial role in supporting the delivery of high-quality healthcare services. This position involves both clinical and administrative duties to ensure the smooth operation of the health center. The Medical Assistant works under the direct supervision of healthcare professionals and contributes to patient care by performing various tasks.

Key Responsibilities:

Clinical Duties

  • Prepare patients for examination by taking vital signs, medical history, and documenting information in the electronic health record (EHR) system.

  • Assist healthcare providers during examinations and procedures.

  • Administer medications and injections as directed by healthcare providers.

  • Perform basic laboratory tests and prepare specimens for laboratory testing.

  • Conduct EKGs, spirometry, and other diagnostic tests.

  • Clean and sterilize medical instruments and equipment.

  • Assist with minor surgical procedures and wound care.

  • Educate and instruct patients on medication, nutrition, and other health-related topics as directed by healthcare providers.

  • Perform phlebotomy and collect blood samples.

Administrative Duties

  • Answer phone calls, respond to patient inquiries, and provide necessary information.

  • Manage billing and coding tasks.

  • Maintain accurate patient records and ensure confidentiality.

  • Process prescription refills.

  • Assist in managing medical supplies and inventory.

  • Facilitate patient flow and reduce wait times by efficiently managing clinical and administrative tasks.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Completion of a certified Medical Assistant program is preferred.

  • Current certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA, RMA, NCMA, or CCMA) is preferred.

  • CPR and First Aid certification.

  • Proficiency in using electronic health records (EHR) systems.

  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, and move for extended periods.

  • Ability to lift and move patients or medical equipment.

  • Manual dexterity to operate medical instruments and perform clinical procedures.

Working Conditions

  • Fast-paced clinical environment.

  • Exposure to infectious diseases and biohazards.

  • Requirement to work some evenings and weekends based on clinic needs.
