Job Title: Medical Billing Specialist

Status / Time: Full-Time
Reports to: MA Supervisor
Pay: $16.50 - $24.00 per hour
Expected Hours: 40 per week


Job Summary:
We are seeking a diligent and detail-oriented Medical Billing Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in medical billing and coding, excellent organizational skills, and a commitment to supporting our mission of providing quality healthcare services to our community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and submit clean claims to various insurance companies either electronically or by paper.

  • Follow up on unpaid claims within standard billing cycle timeframe.

  • Check each insurance payment for accuracy and compliance with contract discount.

  • Call insurance companies regarding any discrepancy in payments if necessary.

  • Identify and bill secondary or tertiary insurances.

  • Research and appeal denied claims.

  • Maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to all HIPAA guidelines/regulations.

  • Maintain accurate records of patient accounts, including payments received and outstanding balances.

  • Provide excellent customer service to patients and their families by addressing billing inquiries and resolving any billing issues.

  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals within the center to ensure accurate and timely billing processes.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; Associate's degree in a related field preferred.

  • Certified Professional Biller (CPB) or Certified Medical Reimbursement Specialist (CMRS) certification preferred.

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in medical billing and coding.

  • Proficiency with billing software and electronic medical records (EMR) systems.

  • Strong knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS codes.

  • Familiarity with insurance guidelines and medical terminology.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
