Job Title: Part-Time Pharmacist

Status / Time: Part-Time
Wage Classification: Non-Exempt


Job Description & Overview
Responsible for ensuring the safe, effective, and efficient dispense of prescription medication to patients of a Federally-Qualified Health Center (FQHC), Ko‘olauloa Health Center, and its surrounding community. Provides high-quality pharmaceutical care, including the appropriate use of medications, patient education, and drug utilization review. Works in collaboration with other healthcare professionals to provide patient-centered care. Responsible for Pharmacy Department operations and personnel in the absence of the Director of Pharmacy.

Essential Functions

Administration Responsibilities:

  • Maintains complete and accurate records of dispensed medications.

  • Ensures compliance with state and federal laws and regulations related to pharmacy practice.

  • Participates in quality improvement processes, facilitating and supporting team development and communication.

  • Maintains inventory control, replenishing and reconciling discrepancies when necessary.

  • Directs work of assigned employees in the absence of the Director of Pharmacy.

Pharmacist Responsibilities:

  • Reviews all medication orders with precision and accuracy.

  • Provides medication counseling, including medication interactions, drug allergies, and other medication-related issues, as needed.

  • Monitors patients’ concurrent medications, ensuring optimal therapeutic outcomes, minimizing adverse effects, and avoiding drug interactions.

  • Maintains knowledge of the 340B Drug Program.

  • Provides clinical services such as Medication Therapy Management (MTM).

  • Provides guidance on over-the-counter medications and other health-related products.

Other Duties:

  • Assists in the coordination of care for patients in need, with medical, dental, and/or outreach staff, as necessary.

  • Executes policies and procedures of the department to promote safety through the proper storage, preparation, dispensing and/or administration of medications.

  • Reports unsafe conditions, injuries, illnesses and incidents in a timely and appropriate manner.

  • Ensures that employees under supervision, and self, perform duties in accordance with industry best practice.

  • Maintains knowledge of upcoming new medications and treatment guidelines.

  • Practices and promotes quality customer service and interdepartmental teamwork.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Work Environment: This job operates in a professional healthcare setting and routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers (including pharmacy software and an electronic medical record), telephones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch or climb stairs. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

The employee must display a professional demeanor during periods of high stress (such as the ability to follow instructions), perform simple and repetitive tasks, adjust work pace to workload, perform complex and varied tasks, exercise cultural sensitivity, and adapt to the needs of different patient populations. The employee may encounter complex medical conditions that require advanced clinical knowledge and decision-making skills without direct supervision and may be asked to accept and carry out responsibilities for decision making and planning.

Position Type / Expected Hours: This is a part-time position and may require no more than 20 hours of work per week. Pharmacy hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 9:00 am to 5:30 pm and 9:00 am to 1:00 pm on Saturdays. Hours and days worked may vary depending on departmental needs.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an accredited college of pharmacy

  • Active pharmacist license in the State of Hawaii

  • Not on the OIG, SAM, and/or DEA Excluded Parties List

  • Immunization Certification through an accredited organization (e.g., APhA)

  • No pending felony convictions for criminal offenses

  • At least 2 years’ experience as a pharmacist in a similar professional setting (preferred)

Competencies: MS Office, Word and Excel, Excellent Communication Skills, both verbal and written, Excellent organizational skills, Ability to define problems and offer potential solutions, Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to operate various office equipment such as computers, cash registers and fax machines. Ability to interpret and apply guidelines and procedures.
