Position Overview & Summary
Ko’olauloa Health Center (KHC) is committed to ensuring the delivery of quality care through continuous evidence-based improvements. The Patient Centered Medical Home (PMCH) standards, a nationally recognized evidence-based model for quality improvement and quality care implemented at KHC. All employees are a part of the PCMH model and are required to actively participate in quality initiatives, including training and evaluation projects. Employees are expected to demonstrate and promote team-based, and patient-centered interactions with other staff members, patients, families, and clients.
The Pharmacy Director at Ko’olauloa Health Center (KHC) oversees and manages all aspects of the pharmacy department, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations while supporting the health center’s mission to provide comprehensive, high-quality care to underserved populations. The Director will lead a team of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians ensuring the efficient, safe, and cost-effective delivery of pharmacy services.
Key Responsibilities
1. Leadership & Management
Develop and implement strategic goals for the pharmacy department aligned with the health center’s mission and objectives.
Supervise, mentor, and evaluate pharmacy staff, fostering a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and professional development.
Manage pharmacy operations, including inventory management, medication safety, and adherence to quality assurance standards.
Oversee the 340B Drug Pricing Program to maximize cost savings and ensure compliance with all program requirements.
Review and update pharmacy policy and procedure manual.
2. Clinical Services
Collaborate with clinical teams to integrate pharmacy services into patient care, promoting safe and effective medication use.
Provide medication therapy management (MTM) and clinical consultations to healthcare providers and patients.
Develop and implement protocols for chronic disease management, medication adherence, and patient education in conjunction with KHC’s Chief Medical Officer (CMO) and the Clinical Care Teams.
3. Regulatory Compliance
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including HRSA, DEA, and Board of Pharmacy requirements.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all pharmacy activities, audits, and inspections.
Implement and monitor policies and procedures to ensure patient safety and quality care.
4. Financial Management
Develop and manage the pharmacy department’s budget, ensuring financial sustainability and cost-effectiveness.
Analyze financial reports and operational data to optimize resources, control costs, and improve efficiency.
Seek and secure funding opportunities, including grants and partnerships, to expand pharmacy services.
5. Community Engagement & Education
Serve as a liaison between the pharmacy department and the community, promoting health education and outreach initiatives.
Represent the KHC in local, state, and national pharmacy organizations to advocate for the needs of underserved populations.
Collaborate with academic institutions to offer internship and residency opportunities for pharmacy students.
Work Environment: This job operates in a professional healthcare setting and routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers (including pharmacy software and an electronic medical record), telephones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Position Type / Expected Hours: This is a part-time position and may require no more than 20 hours of work per week. Pharmacy hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 9:00 am to 5:30 pm and 9:00 am to 1:00 pm on Saturdays. Hours and days worked may vary depending on departmental needs.

Qualifications
Education & Licensure:
Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from an accredited institution.
Current, unrestricted pharmacist license in the state of Hawai‘i
Board certification (e.g., BCPS, BCACP) preferred.
Experience:
Minimum of 5-7 years of experience as a licensed pharmacist, with at least 3 years in a leadership or management role is preferred.
Experience in an FQHC, community health center, or similar healthcare setting is highly desirable.
Knowledge of the 340B Drug Pricing Program and experience managing pharmacy operations in a multidisciplinary care environment.
Skills:
Strong leadership and team management skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
Proficiency in electronic health records (EHR) and pharmacy management systems.
Analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on quality improvement and patient-centered care.
Working Conditions:
Full-time position, typically Monday through Friday; Saturdays are dependent on the staffing needs of the pharmacy.
Work is performed in a clinical and administrative environment within the health center.
