PSA - Ocean Health & Safety

Aloha ‘Ohana!

Here is an important PSA from our friends at Surfrider Foundation and the Department of Health.

** HIGH BACTERIA LEVELS DETECTED **

What this means:

These tests measure enterococcus bacteria which is a sign of human or animal waste in the water

When levels go above 130, the risk of getting sick increases

That can include:

  • stomach illness

  • skin infections

  • ear/sinus infections

  • more serious infections in some cases

This doesn't mean you will get sick. But it DOES mean the risk is higher especially: after heavy rain , near stream outlets in brown or murky water.

(that's when runoff + contamination gets pushed into the ocean)
