Back 2 School Bash!

Aloha ‘Ohana!

Our friends at Nurture Cultivate Hawaii (NCI Hawaii) are organizing a wonderful 2024 Koʻolauloa Back 2 School Bash, which will be taking place on Monday, July 29, 2024, from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Hauʻula Elementary School. This is a community celebration that engages ʻohana in ‘āina-based education while honoring Native Hawaiian culture and traditions.

This year’s event promises a day full of fun activities including ʻono food booths, arts & crafts, games, health resources, and live music for all ages, as well as opportunities for ʻohana to engage in immersive experiences that honor Native Hawaiian traditions and values. Additionally, the event supports Koʻolauloa entrepreneurs by providing a platform to showcase their products and services, helping to generate additional income streams and fostering a resilient, self-sustaining local economy.

Event Highlights:

Interactive Activities:

Limu pressing, art, learn about traditional medicinal plants, traditional Hawaiian architecture, and more.

Community Engagement:

Social services and health resources to support ʻohana.

Special Features:
A free backpack and some school supplies for children, a slipper drive, and coupons for kids.

And much more!

With approximately 3,355 students from preK to grade 12 attending the six schools in our Koʻolauloa moku, including five Title 1 schools, this event is essential in addressing the needs of our underserved, low-income communities, providing vital resources such as free backpacks, slippers, and other school supplies to ease the financial burden on ʻohana as they prepare for the new school year.

To make this event a success, we are seeking both monetary support and in-kind donations to help cover various costs and enhance the experience for our attendees. Ko‘olauloa Health Center is proud to be a supporter of this year’s Back 2 School bash. If you or the organization that you work with are able to support this event please visit NCI Hawaii’s website (www.ncihawaii.org). Supporting this initiative, potential sponsors and partners can significantly impact the well-being and educational success of our students and ʻohana.

Mahalo and we’re looking forward to seeing you on the 29th!

Summer Meals

Aloha ‘Ohana!

Here is a great PSA: 73 public schools will serve meals free of charge over the summer to children ages 18 and younger – regardless of public school enrollment status – through its summer food service program.

The Hawaiʻi State Department of Education (HIDOE) announced on June 3rd that 73 public schools will serve meals free of charge over the summer to children ages 18 and younger – regardless of public school enrollment status – through its summer food service program.

Beginning June 10, the Seamless Summer Option (SSO) program will serve meals at select schools Monday through Friday, excluding state-observed holidays on June 11 (King Kamehameha Day) and July 4 (Independence Day). Breakfasts will be served from 7:15 to 8:45 a.m. and lunches from 10:30 a.m. to 12 noon. SSO is funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and was established to ensure that children continue to receive nutritious meals during the summer.

“Consistent nutrition is vital to growing children during the summer break when they may not be in school to receive meals,” said Superintendent Keith Hayashi. “We encourage all of our families to make these free meals part of their children’s summer schedules to maintain their healthy development. We are grateful to our participating schools and dedicated cafeteria staff for giving all keiki the opportunity to receive balanced, nutritious meals.”

Summer meals are offered for on-campus dining only; there is no grab-and-go option. Children do not have to be enrolled at a participating school to be served, and meals will consist of solid foods.

Please call Harry Wa’a if you have any questions or need more information. Harry’s direct number is (808) 792-3843. You can also call (808) 293-9231 if Harry is not available.

Mahalo and have a great summer break.

- Redness or flaky skin on your breast

- Nipple discharge (other than milk!)
