Puppy Power!
08262021_KHC International Dog Day.JPG

Aloha Ohana ~ Happy International Dog Day from the entire staff at KHC!

Founded by Animal Welfare Advocate and Pet Lifestyle Expert Collen Paige, the International Dog Day is celebrated on August 26 annually. International Dog Day celebrates all dogs, mixed breed and pure. Its aim is to help galvanize the public to recognize the number of dogs that need to be rescued each year, either from public shelters, rescues, and pure breed rescues.

The first International Dog Day was celebrated on 26 August 2004. The date 26 August was chosen because it was the date when Paige's family adopted their first dog 'Sheltie' when he was 10 years old.

Vaccine Hesitancy
08252021_KHC 1.png

Aloha Ohana,

This week, the FDA gave full authorization to Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine.

However, much of the population Ko’olauloa area is still unvaccinated, and the delta variant is continuing to surge. The reasons some are reluctant to get vaccinated are varied — but we know that getting vaccinated is the number one way we will get ourselves out of this pandemic and ensure a healthy society for decades to come.

Our staff at @koolauloa.health.center has shared a few tips for having conversations with loved ones in your life who may be hesitant to get vaccinated. Swipe right to read our team’s suggestions.

Call our friendly staff at (808) 293-9231 to make an appointment for a friend or family member.

AlohaSafe Alert
08182021_KHC AlohaSafe app 1.png

Aloha Ohana!

Here is a repost from our friends at the Department of Health regarding the release of the cool AlohaSafe Alert mobile app.

The AlohaSafe Alert App is a private and secure way of getting instant notifications that let you know if you have been exposed to someone who tested positive for COVID-19. Download the app from your app store or play store today! Learn more about the AlohaSafe Alert App at https://www.alohasafealert.org/

If you do get notified that you were exposed to an individual who contracted COVID-19, make sure to get tested.

FULLY VACCINATED:

  • If you are NOT experiencing symptoms, you do not need to quarantine. Get tested 3-5 days after your date of exposure. If your results come back positive, isolate for 10 days. Keep track of your symptoms to see if they are improving. If they have improved by day 10 and you do not have a fever for 24 hours (without the use of fever-reducing meds), you can end isolation.

  • If you are experiencing symtpoms, get tested 3-5 days after the date you were exposed to COVID-19. Quarantine until you receive your test results. If your results come back positive, isolate for 10 days. Keep track of your symptoms to see if they are improving. If they have improved by day 10 and you do not have a fever for 24 hours (without the use of fever-reducing meds), you can end isolation.

UNVACCINATED:

  • If you are not fully vaccinated, get tested immediately and quarantine for 10 days after your last contact with the person who tested positive, regardless of your COVID-19 infection status (positive or negative).

Whether you are vaccinated or not, watch for symptoms for 14 days after your last contact with the person with COVID-19 infection. If you develop symptoms, immediately self-isolate and contact your health care provider.

Pregnancy & COVID (Update)
08172021_KHC COVID & Pregnancy.jpg

Aloha Ohana!

Did you know that pregnant and recently pregnant people with COVID-19 are at increased risk for severe illness when compared with non-pregnant people? Severe illness includes illness that requires hospitalization, intensive care unit admission, mechanical ventilation, or extracorporeal membrane oxygenation; or illness that results in death, although the absolute risk for these outcomes is low.

Additionally, pregnant people with COVID-19 are at increased risk for preterm birth and might be at increased risk for other adverse pregnancy complications and outcomes, such as preeclampsia, coagulopathy, and stillbirth. COVID-19 vaccines do not give you COVID-19 because none of the vaccines contain the live virus.

If you haven’t already, please call (808) 293-9231 to schedule an appointment for your vaccine.

Motivation Monday

Aloha Ohana! It’s Motivation Monday here at KHC.

We believe that Monday is a day of beginnings and new starts. It’s a day where the week is before you and possibilities are endless. Begin the week with momentum and you’ll look back with great satisfaction on all you achieved.

On the other hand, we know that Monday can also be stressful. It’s back to work time. You may be in a negative work environment. It’s the highest day of the week for heart attacks. So let’s make this Monday one of the good ones. One where you demonstrate the power of a positive attitude and rocket toward your goals.

Here is a Monday Motivation Quote from Mahatma Gandhi to get your week started:

“The future depends on what you do today.” ~ Mahatma Gandhi

Protect Our Keiki
08152021_KHC Sunday Keiki 1.jpg

Aloha Ohana!

As the school year begins, it’s important to get vaccinated for your Keiki. We are seeing an increase in the effects of social isolation and its impacts on learning. If the current spike continues, our Keiki will continue to face restrictions and limit their interaction with their peers.

Ko'olauloa Health Center is vaccinating by appointment on Tuesdays from 10 am to 1 pm. If you are unvaccinated we hope to see you soon! Call (808) 293-9231 to set up your appointment today.
